Odoo PLC integration for machine data and production counts

A machine counts products or records a status, and a team member later enters the same data into Odoo. A suitable connection lets you use selected machine data in your business workflows. We help manufacturers carefully align their information needs, machine interfaces and processing in Odoo.

Connect your PLC to Odoo

How does the Odoo PLC integration work?

An Odoo PLC integration transfers agreed data from a Programmable Logic Controller to Odoo through a suitable integration layer. A PLC is a type of machine controller, not a brand or standard connector. The integration can make counts or statuses available. This does not mean that Odoo takes over the machine's time-critical or safety-related control functions.

Turn a PLC counter into useful production records

A counter value is only meaningful when its machine, time period and manufacturing order are known. Together, we identify useful signals and define how they become records in Odoo. An increase in a counter does not automatically mean an accepted finished product. Rejected items, test pieces, counter resets and manual corrections must be explicitly accounted for.

PLC, gateway and Odoo: the role of the integration layer

Available protocols vary by PLC, machine and network. Possible components include an industrial gateway, middleware or an existing machine interface. Protocols such as OPC UA, MQTT or Modbus are options only when supported by the equipment and the selected integration layer.

Discuss the possibilities

Link machine data to the right manufacturing order

Less repetitive entry of production counts

Selected machine data can become available for production records under agreed rules.

More context for a production status

Link each observation to a machine, timestamp and order before using it in Odoo reports.

A clear technical boundary

Machine control and ERP processing retain their own responsibilities, with explicit agreements on access and recovery.

Frequently asked questions about Odoo and PLC

No. PLC brands, models and protocols vary, and Odoo is not a universal PLC driver. A gateway or middleware is often required. Kilurion assesses the available interface with the machine supplier and then determines which data can be transferred reliably to Odoo.

Examples include counts, statuses or measurements, provided they are available through a suitable interface. The meaning and quality of the data must be established. We attach the correct context and agree whether the data are for information only or also trigger a business record.

Not as a standard part of this integration. The starting point is exchanging data for business records, not time-critical control or machine safety. Any connection that writes to a machine requires a separate scope and assessment by the responsible technical and safety specialists.

A PLC supplies information close to machine control, while an MES combines production execution and context at a higher level. Sometimes connecting through an existing MES is preferable to integrating each PLC separately. Kilurion assesses which approach fits your factory and Odoo workflows.

Not reliably from an undefined counter reading alone. OEE requires agreed definitions and source data for availability, performance and quality. Production time, relevant stops, target rate and accepted versus rejected quantities must be unambiguous. Defining the measurements first avoids a precise-looking but misleading percentage.
